TRW Automotive, a leading global supplier of automotive components, named Waupaca Foundry its “Partner In Sustainability” at its annual Global Supplier Conference on October 22, 2014. The award is in recognition of Waupaca Foundry’s proven reputation in areas such as environmental protection and compliance, human rights, corporate compliance and ethics, and health and safety programs.
Waupaca Foundry prides itself on sustainable practices. In a collaborative effort with TRW Automotive, a sustainability assessment was conducted down the supply chain by utilizing the Automotive Industry Action Group’s Sustainability Self-assessment format among other tools. Waupaca Foundry was recognized for “very high performance” in sustainability, and assisted in facilitating communications down the global supply chain. Waupaca Foundry re-melts and reuses more than 800,000 tons of metal annually. Additionally, the sand required to make molds for casting production, are also recovered. Seventy percent—or more than 400,000 tons of this sand material—is beneficially reused for road and general construction, agricultural use, and geotechnical fill each year.
Proper use and management of resources has always been a top priority for Waupaca Foundry, and being recognized for our sustainability efforts by TRW Automotive is an honor. Our sustainability initiatives allow us to be an efficient and consistent provider of top-quality iron castings in use around the globe and responsible stewards of the Earth.
Waupaca Foundry would like to thank its team members and suppliers for their continued commitment to its sustainability efforts. We owe our success to our dedicated suppliers and employees who made this possible. We remain steadfast in serving our partners like TRW Automotive and are committed to sustainable stewardship in the communities we call home. We look forward to ongoing continuous improvement initiatives in our sustainability program in the coming months and years.
