companies are not adding jobs and are rescinding job offers made conditional upon graduation, making the competition steep. It is crucial, now more than ever, to stand out as a candidate.

Waupaca Foundry provides young professionals, like Landon Bissey, with internship opportunities to gain hands-on work experience to help make them stand out while searching for jobs.

Landon is a Computer Engineering Intern at Waupaca Foundry’s machining center located in Effingham, Illinois. He is pursuing a Computer Engineering degree at Northern Illinois University of Evansville. His expected graduation date is Fall 2020.

Landon put his skills acquired in the classroom to the test by pursuing an internship in his chosen field. “[I’ve gained] good hands-on experience, like applying what I've been learning in school and seeing how practical it can be." Landon expresses his gratitude for his experience. “I’ve gotten a lot of good experience that I can use later on in my career.” This experience will help set him apart when beginning his post-college job search.

This summer, Landon has been coding a graphical user interface for coordinate measuring machines that the operators use to machine iron castings for automakers. Landon’s primary project goal is to make the CMM more efficient to measure the machined components to ensure each part meets Waupaca Foundry and its customers’ quality standards.
